The GTFIH

The Green Triangle Forest Industries Hub (GTFIH) is a strategic collaboration of leading forestry and timber companies operating across the Green Triangle region of southeast South Australia and southwest Victoria. Formed in 2018 by nine founding members, the Hub brings together growers and processors across both softwood and hardwood sectors, including the harvest and haulage supply chain, representing around 90% of the region’s forest industry.

With a shared commitment to long-term sustainability, innovation, and regional growth, the Hub works to strengthen the forestry value chain through coordinated planning, policy advocacy, and strategic investment. Its work is underpinned by strong partnerships with all levels of government, including support through the Federal Government’s Growing a Better Australia initiative, and project funding from both the Victorian and South Australian governments.

Key priorities include market diversification, fibre optimisation, workforce development, and reducing sovereign risk in Australia’s wood supply.

Victorian Forest Products Association

The Victorian Forest Products Association is the peak industry body representing Victoria’s timber and wood fibre sector. Its members include plantation forest growers, timber processors, pulp and paper manufacturers, enterprises involved in value-adding throughout the supply chain.

The association is focused on supporting and advocating for a growing and sustainable forestry industry, that garners broad community and government support. The VPFA plays a significant role in Victoria’s economy, with the plantation sector employing more than 21,000 people primarily in regional areas.

The industry generates $730 million in direct economic activity and contributes to a total economic output of $6.1 billion.

The Victorian State Government

The Victorian Government announced $500,000 funding for the Future Fibre – Hardwood Timber Manufacturing Hub on 21 February 2025. Funding was secured from the Portland Economic Diversification Plan which is supporting long term economic growth in the Glenelg Shire through community-led projects and planning.

Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes MP said:

“We’re committed to supporting and exploring options to promote and diversify Victoria’s industries and support local jobs and businesses in Portland to thrive.”

Member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora:

“This investment builds on the work already completed by industry to identify potential gaps in the market for timber products and use a locally grown resource to meet that demand.”
