The feasibility study will explore opportunities to establish a Hardwood Timber Manufacturing Hub, in close proximity to wood fibre resource in the Glenelg Shire.

This Hub aims to produce high value structural timber products, for use in Australia, from traditionally exported softwood pulp log resource and hardwood eucalyptus globulus fibre. This integrated wood handling and manufacturing site will include infrastructure that is efficiently developed and shared amongst one or more industry partners, with a particular focus on developing a sustainable hardwood timber product market.

The study is exploring both soft and hard infrastructure and understand the capability of existing assets.

The study will explore:

  • Access to suitable land, understanding footprint requirements and opportunities for future expansion;
  • Options for an operating model;
  • Co-location of complimentary industries or identify industries that may benefit from colocation;
  • Hardstand requirements
  • Residue management
  • Processing infrastructure and performance characteristics
  • Associated infrastructure, machinery, storage etc
  • Accessibility – Transport infrastructure including consideration of key freight corridors and intermodal
  • Administrative and staff amenities
  • Reliable energy and water infrastructure, including co-generation opportunities
  • Digital infrastructure
  • Waste management
  • Assessment of employment opportunities
  • Future training space to support workforce development
